CuAl7Si is a copper-based alloy primarily composed of copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), and silicon (Si). It is classified as an aluminum bronze, with silicon added to enhance specific properties like strength, wear resistance, and casting quality.

Specifications

  • Corrosion Resistance:

    • Excellent, particularly in marine and industrial environments.

    • Highly resistant to tarnishing and oxidation due to the formation of a protective aluminum oxide layer.

  • Mechanical Strength:

    • High tensile strength and moderate elongation.

    • Suitable for applications requiring durability under load.

  • Wear Resistance:

    • Superior due to the combination of aluminum and silicon, making it suitable for components exposed to friction and abrasion.

  • Thermal and Electrical Conductivity:

    • Lower than pure copper but still sufficient for some engineering applications.

Applications

CuAl7Si is widely used in industries that demand high strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, such as:

  • Marine Industry: Propellers, pumps, and fittings.

  • Aerospace: Bushings and bearings in challenging environments.

  • Industrial Equipment: Gears, valves, and components in abrasive conditions.

  • Decorative Applications: Architectural hardware due to its golden color and tarnish resistance.

Standards

CuAl7Si corresponds to various standards across the globe, depending on its intended application:

  • EN (European Norm): Listed under casting and wrought aluminum bronze categories.

  • ASTM Standards: May be equivalent to certain ASTM aluminum bronze alloys like C95200 (depending on specific Si content).

  • ISO Standards: Included in copper and copper alloy casting norms.
